About IAS Examination

The IAS exam is considered to be one of the toughest exams in India. It is a three-stage process consisting of the preliminary exam, mains exam, and interview. Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination is an objective type examination consisting of two papers. Paper I is General Studies and Paper II is CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test). The marks obtained in Preliminary Examination are not added to the Main Examination score but are only used to qualify for the Main Examination.
The Main Examination consists of nine papers, two qualifying and seven merit ranking. The qualifying papers are Paper A (Indian Language - 300 marks) and Paper B (English - 300 marks). Candidates must secure minimum qualifying marks separately in these two papers as decided by the Commission. All the remaining papers are merit-ranked.
